MEMORIAL WEEKEND KICKOFF!!

Well, the long awaited weekend is finally here and so far we've had awesome weather! It rained Saturday night and today was absolutely beautiful, a little on the hot side for some, but we'll take it! No snow, no rain! We couldn't ask for anything better!

On behalf of all the vendors, I'd like to thank you all for coming to the Market today, whether to shop, browse, visit, have a bite to eat, or see what was new. We all appreciate it so much! And in appreciation, I'd also like to take a minute to thank Dave for all his hard work, although it's not over yet! I don't think any of stop for a minute and realize all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes not just for the vendors, but for the owners, Dave and Ardy, as well as Karen. There seems to be months of preparation, and not all of it fun, that go into grounds keeping, building upkeep, equipment maintenance, getting vendors set up in buildings, telephone service, garbage dumpsters, porta-potties, the list goes on and on. So if you see Dave around, make sure you give him a BIG thanks! And on the porta-potty note, please use the garbage cans for garbage, pop cans, etc. Have you ever stopped to think who has to get that garbage out of there that can't be sucked out by the pumping truck.........yep, that's right.......DAVE!!! So, I want to say, THANKS DAVE!!! Thanks for all you do, and then some!!

Onto the market! The weekend was great! It was great to see all the vendors come back and meet many new vendors. It is really a time to reflect on many great seasons of buying and selling, meeting new friends, and cacamaraderie. While standing outside my shop today selling, I heard a voice.........no, not a voice from above, but a voice I know. In my head I knew that voice from the past.........yes, it was Diana Dugger!! A long time family and school friend that I haven't seen in years. She shared that this was the first time she had ever been to Shady Hollow!! Well, can you imagine! What an exciting thing, not only to meet great friends, actually someone I consider to be more like a sister, but someone that lived in Detroit Lakes her whole life and had NEVER been to Shady Hollow?!!! See, there is proof!! Some people in DL don't even know it exists!! We need to spread and share the word!!!
Gosh, what would we do without Shady Hollow???!!! Where will all these memories be made and stored?! I hope you had a chance to make and share some of your own memories this weekend! I hope you had a great Memorial Weekend and hope to see you in the upcoming weekends. Remember the two day Saturday/Sunday markets as well!! Let us know if there is something you would like to see at Shady Hollow! Thanks for making it a great place to be!!

ROASTED ALMONDS

Connie and Brad have been bringing their roasted almonds to the Market for many years. If you can walk by without buying some, please let me know how you can resist the temptation! Again, there is something mysterious about the process of these sugar coated treats, especially if you can get them warm out of the roaster!!

They also have homemade salsa and the best barbeque sauce you will ever find! Try it on chicken, pork, even steak! You won't be sorry!! They need to provide it in larger than pint jars!!!

LIL' ORBITS

LIL' ORBITS - YUM YUM!!!

Grant and Logan returned to the Market again with their spiffy Lil' Orbits (mini donut) machine. Well, try as I might to get the secret recipe, they just wouldn't share it! Kind of like the talking dog.......only there was no dog talking this weekend!!! I was able, however, to get some shots of the donuts in motion, so if you get the urge, you can try this at home, but at $3.00 a dozen, I suggest you motor on down to the flea market and pick up a few bags! They are to die for andthey will be there throughout the summer to satisfy your urge for the holeless wonders!! I'll try and find out just what they do with all the holes, so tune in for further updates!! Couldn't you just go for a bag now??? Would you like yours with sugar or without?? Maybe I could make a call and wake Grant or Logan up, they wouldn't mind, I'm sure of it! It's quite the operation, stop by and take a look for yourself!!! I bet if you asked, they'd even give you a sample doughnut!!

RUGS BY DONNA

Hi - my name is Donna and this is my first year at Shady Hollow. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the market. Some of the items I sell include handwoven rugs, bibs, flannel blankets and birch bark baskets.
I enjoy working with the owners and the customers as well. Over the years my family and friends have told me stories and tales about Shady Hollow, the people and the happy feeling you get when you are here.

They have made a believer out of me! Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of Shady Hollow Market! ~Donna~

MARKET OPENING!!!

I hope your opening fishing went well and you are enjoying our short spring! Hopefully we will not have any more snow!!  We had enough over winter to last us a couple!  With only a week to go until the kick off of opening weekend at Shady Hollow Flea Market, many vendors have been getting their buildings and wares ready for you to shop!  If you need to contact me, you can always e-mail me ~ atchk@loretel.net.    Please feel free to leave a message for any vendor in the comments section under their description as well!

This year brings some changes at the Flea Market, including  new vendors with great new products, the addition of two day Markets each month, which will include Saturdays and Sundays:
  • June 21 & 22
  • July 19 & 20
  • August 2 & 3
We hope you plan to come out and help us kick off another great flea market season this weekend!  Remember that cotton candy, how about those roasted almonds??? Hankering for a great home cooked hamburger, perhaps with fried onions?  Well, it's all there, ready to go!!  Maybe chase it down with some iced tea or pink lemonade!

So far the forecast looks great!!  Although we know we can never hold them to that! Be sure to stop by and say hi!  This is a sure sign of summer!

SEE YOU AT THE FLEA!!!
