A CELEBRATION!

THREE DAYS!!!!

The big three day weekend is approaching! Hard to believe it's already the Fourth of July! Maybe it's because summer hasn't come to Minnesota yet. Have we even had a 90 degree day yet??? Maybe this weekend.......

Before you venture out to the market this weekend, I wanted to share some of the newest finds with you. HOURS: I have also had many people ask what time the market opens, and closes. There are no set times for either, weather seems to be a factor in both! We would all invite you to come at the crack of dawn when the vendors are setting up, or 6:00 a.m. Of course if you want to give us a chance to get our wares set up and doors open, a good time to start shopping would be 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. Most shoppe owners stay open until 3:30 or 4:00 o'clock, while field vendors have a tendency to head out around 3:00 o'clock. Again, factor in rain, sun, sleet, snow, heat, wind.......had a lot of that lately............onto some new wares at the market!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have to mention the awesome lake pendants I had custom made for my shoppe, KittyKelli's. After some long, hard research, I was able to have them made with how the particular lake was named! I have approximately 12 to 14 area lakes available, although some have already sold! I can always have your specific lake made just for you! Stop by and check them out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Get a piece of the rock! New to the market, G.O.C. Rocks can custom engrave on various size rocks. The sky is the limit here! I was thinking of all kinds of things that I could put on a rock! They even had my name......spelled correctly, which is a miracle in itself! They will be back for the three day weekend, make sure you check them out! They can even engrave the large yard rocks with your name or address! Might even be the solution you've been looking for to keep people from driving on your lawn!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yet another awesome item to check out are these hand painted mailboxes, designed to portray your favorite classic car. Take a look and you'll see what I mean! Pick your favorite, if you can!! Didn't get dad a Father's Day gift, need a special birthday present, or just a little something to say "thanks", this will definitely be something they don't have! Custom mailboxes can also be done to depict your favorite car! Chad Jutz does an excellent job on something everyone needs to receive their mail!
MEMORY MAKERS.....
Well, we almost made it through our two day weekend without any rain showers, almost! A big thank you to those that braved the weather, both hot and the rain on Sunday! Hopefully summer will be here one of these days, well, officially it was Sunday, June 21, when the summer solstice began! What that means to me is the days will now start getting shorter, yep, we start going the other way and losing daylight...........sorry!
On to the memory makers and gathering place! It's nice to see that Shady Hollow continues to be a gathering place for all walks of life! As I glanced out my door I saw a large gathering of people.......what's this, I thought? Grabbed my camera and out I went. I saw the Burnside girls snapping photos and someone from the group muttered, "Whose camera is that?" I had to chuckle to myself! Of course I had to reveal myself as the blogger for the market!
This wonderful group are the descendants of the Hatzenbihlers, including 23 children/grandchildren, who had come to Detroit Lakes from as far as Minneapolis and Rochester for a family reunion of sorts. They decided to take in Shady Hollow as part of their gathering and I learned that a few treasures and trinkets were found by the group!
Thanks for including Shady Hollow in your stay at Detroit Lakes and sharing your warm story with all of us! Hope to see you all again soon!
TWO DAY MARKET
Saturday and Sunday, June 20 & 21, bring us our first two day market of the season! The weather report is good, and starting last night there were already lots of vendors set up, which is always a good sign of an excellent market! There were a few rivers flowing through the "streets of Shady Hollow" due to some brief downpours last night, but hopefully that won't deter anyone! A great weekend to take dad out for a stroll, or maybe buy him a new car!! Unfortunately, this number is gone, whisked away by a seeker of fun! There is much more to be found at the market, something for everyone!
GARDEN CRAFTS always has something fun for everyone's garden or yard and has even added some designs with a fishing theme to them this year....from Sunnies, Northerns and even a bobber to keep an eye on things! Sure to be a hit in anyone's garden or yard! Keep them comin' Georgie!
We hope you'll stop out one day this weekend and do some treasure hunting with us! Be sure to stop by and say hi!
Remember some of the upcoming events this season:
July 4 - Kiddie Parade/Coloring Contest
August 1 - Classic Car Show
(Participants/Entrants accepted for both!!)
VENDOR APPRECIATION
A special thanks to all the vendors and shoppe owners who bring us the great finds throughout the weeks at Shady Hollow!
We appreciate you coming to the Market every weekend and setting up and sharing with us!
Hope to see you next weekend and at the next vendor picnic over the long Fourth of July weekend! Remember the Kiddie Parade too!
GRAMPA'S TREATS
A fair favorite has arrived at the Market! These are not your ordinary "dogs"!! These are a hand-dipped variety and made on site! Whether you eat yours with ketchup or mustard, this is a crowd pleaser!
Each dog is individually hand-dipped and fried to a perfect golden crisp! Couldn't you just go for one, or two now! We only have a few short months to get your fix of these great wonders! Who could pass up such a tasty treat!
YUM!!! The finished product..........
Grampa's also has 12 flavors of Hawaiian Ice, as well as the popular Lil' Orbits mini donuts to round out a great lunch and afternoon snack! (They also make an awesome breakfast!!)
Well worth the wait!!
PAPA DIO'S
There's some fabulous cooking going on at the Market! If you're not hungry by this time, well, there just might be something wrong with you!
From beef brisket, home style fries, Frito Pie, hand pattied hamburgers, Papa Dio's is certainly going to win you over! If you're on the go, start your day off with a breakfast taco, your choice, eggs and potatoes, eggs and charizo, or eggs and bacon, (did I mention the handmade tortilla??) the price is right, you might just want to try all three...but make sure you leave room for lunch, or an afternoon snack!!
Stop by and welcome the Mirandas to the Market and enjoy some excellent home cooking!
PATINA WHITE
Always a favorite stop at the Market, Beth is back again this year with Patina White. You will always find truly unique selection of "less than serious goods for self, soul & surroundings". In particular, I love the signage she always carries, the "Eat" sign was gone by the time I got back, so if you ever see one wandering about, let me know, I want it!!!
Patina White also features an amazing array of whimsical wearables ranging from artisan collage charm jewelry to bracelets and necklaces fabricated from vintage typewriter keys. You'll find junkyard art to enchant your home & garden plus off beat gifts thoughtfully created & gathered for all occasions! a must see at the market! Also be inspired & informed by her website~www.patinawhite.com...happy day!
IN THE THICKETS
Well, if you're like me and don't have much of your gardening done, you're in luck!!
Lori is back with her daughters and selling her Proven Winners again! And boy are they healthy and full of blooms! I'm not sure where you would find Proven Winners at such a good price, either! Four inch pots of all your favorites for just $3.00, or four for $10.00, even cheaper if you buy an entire flat of 15 for $30.00.........I'll let you do the math on that one!!
As far as I know, when they pulled out last Sunday, their plan was to come back again this Sunday, so get your plans laid out and figure out how many planters you have left to fill! These always sell fast, especially the favorites.....come early to get what you need! The growing season is short and she only has so many to sell!
FABULOUS FINDS.....
It goes without saying, there's always a good "find" at the flea....gas is one of them. Gas is always a good buy at the market, it was down to $1.11 for regular over the opening weekend, I filled up twice over the long weekend.....I hope it stays that cheap over the summer months........(just kidding, only the sign was cheap...doubt we'll see gas at these prices again, but we can wish!)
The weather was perfect, even Monday turned out exceptionally nice, sorry to say, for those of you that left early! As it turned out, not that much rain fell after all!!
There were fabulous finds for everyone! I spied quite a bit of advertising around the grounds.
Tom apparently can't wait for hunting season, so he's doing a little early hunting, at the Market! There was actually a pair of these antlers, you'll have to check with Tom to see if he took this pair home..........I think some tall tales might have been told at this booth....
COTTON LAKE TILE
It's always good to see the return of vendors! Bracken Rourke of Cotton Lake Tile is one of them! Cotton Lake Tile is a custom tile company producing unique, one of a kind tiles. The tile is durable enough for home, commercial or outdoor use. You can select from an endless combination of styles, sizes, single or multi-color, and distinct glazes. The possibilities are endless! ~ September 5 - 7
THE LINE UP.....
By mid morning on Friday, the entry line had already formed for vendors. I thought I would take a walk over and see just how many people had lined up! There were a good 25 to 30 vendors in line, a good sign for a three day weekend at Shady Hollow!
All were very patiently waiting in line for the gate keeper to let them in and set up their wares!! By 3:30 the line had grown considerably, as did some vendor's patience!
TIME FOR CHANGE
About a week to go before the flea market opens for the season and there continues to be changes made! Not only are there new vendors, a new permaenent building, but there will be no more food bus and, no more booths to sit in! No need to worry.... there will be plenty of picnic tables and the bus will be replaced with a wonderful concession stand, Grampa's Treats, operated by Grant, Logan and Brock Langerud, bringing us such treats as the wonderful mini donuts, cotton candy, 12 flavors of Hawaiin Ice, and YES!!!!! hand dipped corn dogs!! Won't that be a tasty treat!!!
I think we'll all agree these will be some welcome changes (well, for the most part anyway!) I for one can't wait for Grampa's Treats to set up shop and might be one of the first in line to sample a steaming, hot corn dog right from the fryer, and maybe chase it down with a dozen mini donuts - can anyone say YUM!!!!
Shhhhhhh.....rumor has it they may be ready to serve Friday night, might be worth a drive by to check it out!
